04 Why ASA

For everything that faces the sun.

What makes it great.

ASA prints almost identically to ABS but with one massive upgrade — it doesn't yellow, fade, or go brittle in UV. Years of direct sun do barely anything. Color stays true, mechanical properties hold, and surfaces resist water and weather. The right plastic for parts that have to age gracefully.

  • Excellent UV resistance — colors stay true outdoors
  • Strong, impact-tough, and weather-stable
  • Acetone-smoothable, sandable, glueable like ABS
  • Lower fume output than ABS — same enclosure rules apply

Best for, and not for.

ASA is the go-to for anything that lives outdoors permanently — garden hardware, drone parts, automotive exteriors, RC models, signage, mailbox parts, and weatherized housings. It needs an enclosure and a hot bed, but pays you back in parts that look new five years later.

  • Outdoor enclosures, signage, and garden fixtures
  • Automotive exteriors, drone bodies, RC parts
  • Avoid: open printers — warps without an enclosure
  • Avoid: indoor-only parts — cheaper to use PETG
